Dedos summary part 2

The courses and participating faculty for the pilot have already been selected. To recruit faculty for DEDOS, the Project director and the DEDOS coordinator held individual meetings with department heads, and with CEDTEC’s staff recommendations based on faculty’s online experience, the participants were selected. Faculty members were then approached individually by the DEDOS coordinator.

The faculty group was then convened in a meeting where the Project director made a presentation about theTitle V Project and the DEDOS coordinator made her presentation emphasizing the relevance of teamwork for the redesign of each online course. Faculty had the opportunity to bring their questions and suggestions about this initiative.

Prezi Presentation for Faculty

A panel of experts was invited by DEDOS to discuss the “New Trends in Education”. The group of experts included Dr. César A. Rey (former Secretary of Education of Puerto Rico), Dr. Aileen Estrada, Dr. Nyvea Silva, and Dr. Rosa Ojeda. They discussed the current conditions of education in Puerto Rico, the role of women in the learning process, the development of a high school student profile and the impact technology has in the teaching process. This discussion was recorded, using the new equipment purchased with Project funds. It will be part of an interactive training module for faculty in course CED 401.

Proposed equipment for DEDOS was purchased, among them a smartboardTricaster, HD video cameras, webcams, and new software, among others. The staff got acquainted with the equipment and learned new strategies that can be passed on to the faculty. Instructional designers have been testing Web 2.0 tools like Skype(free version), Screenr (screencast recording tool), Jing (screen capture tool), Storify (digital storytelling tool) and Prezi (highly creative presentations). Even at this early stage, DEDOS has already begun training Project staff in some of the tools acquired. This training has afforded the opportunity to try out new equipment and applications.
