SLS 1501 is an engaging class of 30 students, led by a full-time faculty member or student affairs professional. Within the class, students can develop lasting peer groups and a learning community that will provide support, structure, and guidance throughout their first year. Every class consists of a peer mentor: an upper-classman who, having successfully completed their first year, is eagerly ready to make every student feel connected to the campus, as well as to serve as a social advisor and a bank of guidance. SLS is a graded course, and the student’s effort will directly impact his or her GPA.
Objectives of SLS 1501
The course is designed to assist students in achieving the following goals:
- Adjusting to the University
- Developing effective study skills
- Developing interpersonal skills
- Exploring major and career opportunities
- Becoming familiar with University resources
Outcomes of SLS 1501
At the end of Freshmen Seminar, students will:
- Develop critical thinking skills that promote academic success
- Develop confidence and strengthen their purpose for attending college
- Build a supportive community of peers who will assist them throughout college
- Be able to articulate short and long-term academic and career goals
- Establish study goals and priorities consistent with the courses they are enrolled in, every semester.
I think this is a very good post. These are the FEP objectives and we are going to try and create a summer experience and seminar with these objectives as well.
