ASSESSMENT COMPONENTS

According to the proposal of Title V project: “The overarching goals of the 2010 Title V proposal are: to increase our institutional capacity to serve the needs of Hispanic and low-income students, achieve higher retention and graduation rates, and the implementation of systematic institutional and learning assessment to reduce curricular and educational process obstacles to achieving these higher rates”.

“The Third Component of the Project: The Systematic Assessment System, [SAS] is also a dual component project. It consists of monitoring the students by means of a web-based solution or software, and performing standard-based learning assessment. The monitoring system will flag at-risk students and, as a result, faculty, counselors, and staff will respond. The standard-based learning assessment will be specifically used to generate changes in curricula and service protocols to improve the overall student experience at USC. Faculty has also suggested monitoring students during the first three semesters through special experiences and more accurate placement measures before they begin studies at the university, another best practice for promoting retention and graduation (Noel-Levitz, 2009). Standard-based assessment will be facilitated by a web-based Assessment Management System, Livetext, a database that produces standard aligned reports”.

In the case of the Assessment the activities, in general, are going to be:

Concepts of ‘assess’ and ‘evaluation’.
Collect data of assessment and students needs, analyze the results and develop into information that leads to different strategies.
Develop of documents for service integration and tools as: surveys; rubrics; forms; manuals; procedures.
Assessment tools, assessment activities and assessment planning: as part of teaching practice.
Online modules as: study habits and techniques in non-conventional ways.
Assessment using technology (Web-based).
Collaborate with the three components of the Project: FEP-DEDOS-SAS in providing technical assistance to faculty and administrative staff in the use of instruments of assessment and online assessment.-
