Today, I decided to share with you part of the Introduction of a project I wrote for an educational company in Puerto Rico:Rocket Planning: "MENOS ES MAS: SELECCIONANDO DESTREZAS PARA PROFUNDIZAR".
"The family as the first organization to which we belong, contains us as human beings, then we develop our first learning experiences, incorporating rules, roles, ways of acting, and thinking to solve reality.
The school, as a second organization, is responsible as the primary teaching role, being the privileged area where children and youth acquire knowledge to enable them to exercise responsible citizenship and integration in the world. This education is organized and conducted systematically by the state or the private sector to what is known as the School Education System (school-formal education) whose members are schools and teachers.
As we participate of the school from specific roles, we learn to achieve the goals we set through concrete actions and the very development of such participation. But many times, beyond the intentions, the differences between saying and doing may present obstacles to the task. It's when you act out contradictions between the actions undertaken and declared aims and objectives.
It becomes necessary to enable the school space to think about what should be taught, how it is hoped that students learn and how they will create conditions for teaching and materials for children and young people access to meaningful educational experiences. You have to plan before you act: making activities more efficient, allowing a better use of time and evaluating the processes involved".
It is important that each educational instituttion review and improve their curriculum design and to agree on which means "standards - skills - concepts and achievements".
And remember...Less is more: The notion that simplicity and clarity lead to good design.
Have a nice weekend!!
