This week I began working as an Instructional Designer at Centro de Enriquecimiento para la Docencia y Tecnología Educativa (CEDTEC) as a member of the component DEDOS of the new Title V Project. On January 18, after having a meeting with Human Resources staff to attend everything concerning our hire, we have a meeting with Ms. Gloria López to have a little brief of which are the goals of the project and ourselves. Therefore, we had another meeting with HR to discuss all the benefits we have rights and how important is to be part of the University of the Sacred Heart (USC) staff.
After that, I headed to meet the members of the CEDTEC staff. I met CEDTEC director Sylvia Álvarez and Instructional Development coordinator Wally Alvaranza. Then I met former classmate Paulina Quintero, now a fellow instructional designer and DEDOS member. Through my first days here, both Paulina and Wally have help me giving me some training to understand how everything works in the office. Has part of my first assignments, I had to revise and evaluate some undergraduate online courses to get in the flow of things. I revise the structure, instructional activities, electronic resources and communication tools used in those courses. Then I gave my recommendations to the professors of those courses in a very respectful and professional way, so they don't take it the wrong way. The idea is to make them feel comfortable, but at the same time conscious that we are here to guide and help them in the design of their classes.
Then yesterday, I took part of my first meeting as a DEDOS member where the members of this component gave me an update of everything they had done since last October. They had bought some technological tools like a SmartBoard, laptops and software. Also, we discussed the status of the technological tool DimDim and if it was going to be used in the regular online courses of the institution. Right now, we must look for other alternatives since this tool hasn't fulfill the expectations. Finally, at the close of this post, we're going to have a meeting to discussed the possible training material we are going to design. We must help the selected faculty create and integrate at least 6 learning objects.
So far I have received a lot of help and training from my co-workers...really enjoying what I'm doing...see ya' soon!!
