Keeping things close to the chest…

As I told you a month ago, DEDOS has been developing a strategic plan to design and create new resources in order to train our faculty members. As a result, we have developed an online course in Moodle, CED 401: Adopting new teaching styles and practices, a course that will help our faculty understand, adopt and integrate new strategies in the educational field. It’s no surprise to all of us that these strategies come with some online tools faculty members will know and learn and hopefully, adopt them. Also, we are looking to put USC’s faculty in a very unfamiliar position: been a student.

This has show us that they’re no different than our students…having multiple responsibilities, the strong-weak skills combination and collaborative nature. That’s why we are seeking for new instructional strategies, educational online tools and most important, understanding that knowledge is a valuable asset. Here is a screenshot of the course, which contains forums, wikispaces, video conference tools…this isn’t a finished version since the course will be in constant evolution, but consider it the beginning…

Also we met with Dr. Madeline Villamil in order to understand how Freshmore Experience course (FEP) has been developed and how the courses will be given to the students during the first 3 months of their college careers. This will help us establish a plan of how we are going to work with USC’s faculty members.
