2011 SME Digital & Mobile Behavioral Study


I attended to the Digital SME Forum: The 10th edition of the Forum held on Wednesday, May 25. The Association of Sales and Marketing Executives of Puerto Rico (SME) held the event in Puerto Rico.The "2011 SME Digital & Mobile Behavioral Study" is based on a survey of 500 personalinterviews at the island, it gives useful statistical information about the Puerto Rican consumer behavior in the use of digital and mobile media, the most-visited pages, access locations, social media, online shopping, activities performed, functions that the consumers use and purchase of cellular applications. The study, conducted by Technical Studies, also includes the types of online transactions made ​​by the consumer and the level of attention to the promotions they receive.
The results that the SME presented to the public were:
  • changes in the incidence of Internet usage (between 2005-2011)
  • projected growth of the Internet in Puerto Rico
  • increase in broadband in Puerto Rico (between 2005-2011)
  • age incidence
  • gender incidence
  • social networks in which they have accounts
  • cell phone type that the internet users have
  • cell phone use to surf the internet

Other interesting information contained in the study: spending ranging on Internet purchases goes from $100 to $500. El 76.0% of people surveyed make online purchases, while the 24.0% don't. When they asked users the "top of mind awareness when they hear the word 'cell', the prevailing response was iPhone (with 19%), Samsung with 14% ranked second; while Nokia and Motorola followed with the third and fourth. Meanwhile, 86.6% of users say they access to thenetwork from a connection at home.
  • In the education field, the group of people with graduate degrees, masters or doctorate, was the fastest growing group. 91.3% of that group said to connect to the network, a 11.3% growth compared to 2010.
  • In the age field over the greater use of internet comes from young people between the ages of 12 to 24, to exceed 80%. People between the ages of 25 to 35 years the incidence of use stood at 67.1%.
  • In the gender field: 53.1% of women reported to use the internet as part of their daily lives, compared with 46.9% of men.
  • Respect to the economic status, since the use is in line with incomes.The study found that the higher the annual salary greater Internet penetration.
  • About the type of cell phone they have and model: 54.2% have a regular cell phone, 34.6% have a smartphone and 3% don't know or don't indicate.
  • Web pages most visited: facebook, google and you tube.
  • Main activities carried out in social networks: see photos, watch videos, comments on walls.
  • Numbers of hours they spend in internet= 2:37 hours in a typical week day and 2:28 hours in a typical weekend day.
Conclusions:
Continued the democratization in the middle: more women are connected; decrease in median income level, the broadband continues to rise, social networks continue to dominate(serving other purposes beyond the interaction);Internet as integral part of the various dimensions of life of individuals.-
